In the years before I was born, a conflict claimed more than 30,000 lives in my country and turned 1.2 million people into refugees. After independence from Soviet Union, it was a struggle for power between the controlling Leninabadi-Kulyabi Popular Front and Islamic opposition groups and Pamiris from Garm and Gorno-Badakhshan. After the years of violence, we slowly put ourselves back together, but tensions continue to simmer. I talk to my elders about their views of reconciliation.
I am a student of business and finance, and aspiring to discover new business opportunities in Dushanbe.
Peace is the foundation on which we build dreams, enjoy good health, grow our families and celebrate our birthdays. It is because we are at peace that so many things are possible.
