I enjoy my job caring for Rothschild giraffes, and explaining this beautiful creature to visitors every day. The giraffe's small population is a result of years of human encroachment into their ecosystem, environmental degradation, and poaching. What can we do to protect them? Why are they an important part of East Africa's biodiversity? Come with me as we care for giraffes together and learn from this tall, beautiful animal.
I am an educator at the Giraffe Center in Langata, Karen, outside of Nairobi. We care for the endangered Rothschild Giraffe to support their vulnerable population and help people understand giraffes better. Learn more about the Giraffe Center's work at www.giraffecenter.org
In Nairobi, the line between wildlife and city life cuts right across the city. We must never forget that this land is their land, too. It is our responsibility to look after and improve the environment, not to take and take.
