It is tradition that women of the man's family survey available girls to find a suitable wife. They negotiate, and a price for the girl is set something like AFS200,000 to 700,000. When agreement is reached, the bride’s family brings a piece of candy to the groom’s family, signaling their acceptance to the terms. Then the Sher-E-Ne Khore party is arranged. It’s an elaborate inter-family courtship in which a young girl plays little role, and could hardly know what is coming later.

My Philosophy

Seek and explore, but start by knowing who you are. One day every city will have the same shopping centers, the same clothing, the same fast foods. But we will each carry our own family names, our own memory of recipes, dances, dresses, and stories that trace back generations to a time when we were all quite distinct. We will find a way to fuse our histories with our futures and still be true to ourselves.
