Many have heard the term “biodegradable” when we’re talking about packaging, cups and bottles. But what does the term really mean? What happens when a substance is exposed to moisture, heat and sunlight over time? I’ll help students understand the process at the chemical level, and then make sense of different kinds of biodegrading waste.
I am an undergraduate student of chemical engineering at Curtain University in Malaysia. I’m the president of the student chapter of the Institute of Chemical Engineering, and I’m a peer mentor in mathematics.
Chemistry and mathematics are all around us. We are repeating patterns and optimizing. We are reacting and releasing energy. Do you see the science around you? When we can begin to see our daily problems as science challenges, we can look at them with creativity and enthusiasm.
